Matt the manager "Do you want any additional insurance coverage sir?"
I initial and sign not thinking to double check that what I had just told him was accurately reflected in my contact. Which I understand is my bad. But realize, I was holding a crying 2 year old and it was midnight.
Unfortunately, you have to give the rating at least 1 star. I'd prefer 0 stars.
I rented a "Premium Pickup Truck" from this location for a ski trip with some friends. On the website, this states a "Dodge Ram or equivalent." Upon arrival, I was provided with a Toyota Tacoma. If you're not familiar, a Toyota Tacoma is not a full-size pick anywhere near the size of a Dodge Ram. It's a mid-size truck more akin to a Nissan Frontier or a GMC Canyon.
They are independently owned and do not take part in Emerald Club. Which is one thing - but rude service and never having enough cars when you have a reservation is another. Until they get it together we will use Another company to rent from. We tent in Bozeman MT twice a month
Nice staff to work with. Price matched.
Adding insult to injury, I returned the vehicle as instructed to the Rental Car return aisle. Upon drop off I was concerned no one walked around the vehicle with me to confirm it's condition (I did not take pictures unfortunately). When dropping off the keys I was told, "Thanks, we'll take care of that for you. Good bye" and was waived away from the desk.
Will update this review with additional details as received, but I'd firmly suggest renting from a different desk in Bozeman if possible.
They never asked about if I wanted to prepay for gas or bring it back full. It was clear they wanted me (the last customer of the night) out the door as quick as possible.
Matt "No problem let me print a contract"
I returned to the rental desk and requested the rental I had paid for (a full-size pickup). I was told they could move me up to a Toyota Tundra (a full size equivalent), but they were out. I informed the agent the truck was going to be too small for all of our items, on top of the stops we needed to make in order to secure food for the next 5 days for 15 people. He said, "People like the Tacomas. You should too. Sorry, there's nothing we can do."
Don't bother calling to dispute the charges, they will just tell you their is nothing to be done (after taking a week to get back to you). They do not care if you are ever their customer again, Well I can safely say I will not rent from any national car rental again and would encourage others to find a different company to work with.
Terrible experience. Do not rent unless you like being ignored and over charged. They will take advantage of the fact that you are tired and exhausted at midnight and your written contract will not reflect the answers to their questions.
Contract is printed and then pushed across the desk.
Me "No thank you, I would like to decline all coverages"
Actually, there is plenty they could have done: 1) Offered to discount the rate 2) Offered an upgrade to a larger vehicle free of charge considering the car I rented was not available 3) Develop a relationship with the Avis desk 2 FEET from their desk in the event AVIS has a vehicle that a National customer has rented.
About two days after returning home, we received an email message from an insurance adjuster informing us that there was a damage claim filed by National Car Rental against us. We were dumbfounded! We returned the car in exactly the same condition we got it. I questioned the adjuster, and he informed me that there was a nick on the windshield that we were being held responsible for. I informed him that we never noticed it and do not recall an incident when it may have happened. I asked him to forward photographic evidence, which was absolutely inconclusive. Evidently, whatever the damage is is very tiny. When renting a vehicle from Enterprise when back at home, I asked the Enterprise employee, who was doing my vehicle inspection what her opinion was of the National Car Rental experience in Bozeman. She showed me a tool they use to determine if damage found on a car merits reprisal against the renter. She said that if the damage is smaller than the circle on the tool, their policy is "no harm, no foul." I am not saying that there was no nick on the windshield when they inspected it after our rental term. I am saying that we never noticed it before, during or after our rental period. Bottom line, we are hugely disappointed with this experience with National Car Rental in Bozeman, Montana. Had we not had nothing but wonderful service for many years from other National Car Rental locations, we would definitely be changing whom we consider for future car rental providers. Fortunately, I believe our insurance will underwrite the loss if the bogus damage claim is upheld. Sorry to carry on for so long with this review. We just want to be clear about our level of dissatisfaction.
Now 2 days later, I just received a phone call from some "Fleet Services" place notifying me the National location where I dropped off has placed an insurance claim against the vehicle for "bumper misalignment". No estimate was provided, I was told this would be forthcoming once details were provided by the location. This vehicle was not damaged upon my return and seems consistent with the related reviews of falsely reported damage.
This is our first negative experience with National Car Rental since becoming Emerald and Executive members several years ago. Compared to our National car rental experience at the Buffalo International Airport just a week before, the one at the airport in Bozeman, Montana was horrible. First of all, we had to wait in line to be served instead of going right to an Emerald Isle. We did not get to choose from available vehicles. We were just assigned a number and directed to proceed quite a distance to an outside parking lot. Fortunately, the weather cooperated, or it could have been miserable. Perhaps this is not unusual, but we have rented in many places across the country, and this was absolutely the worst set-up we've ever been subjected to. Luckily, the vehicle we were assigned was in good condition and performed flawlessly. After our vacation, we returned the car to the outside parking lot, made the trek to the rental counter only to find nobody working there even though it was the middle of the afternoon. Some poor customer was just standing there waiting patiently for service. There was a key drop slot, so we placed the keys there and proceeded on our way. This was not a terrible car rental experience. However, when we compare it to previous National Car Rental experiences, it was disappointing.
Matt "Initial and sign and we'll get you on your way"
